Cy @EcoparkWelcome to Cy @Work. My full name is Cyrus Angelo Selga, thus the acronym CAS in my web address. With this blog, I hope to share some information and thoughts on my work interests, which include math, technology, investments, the academe and operations research.

I’m a graduate student of Industrial Engineering, with specialization in Operations Research (OR), at the University of the Philippines, the country’s premiere state university. It took me some time to finally decide on what master’s degree to pursue but I finally settled on OR, believing that it can help solve interesting and important problems in our society today.

This blog is my more professional take on an online presence. I also have a personal blog, Fractal Dimension, in which I created some posts which are also relevant to this new blog. My original plan before was to simply create a blog for all my interests, both personal and work-related. However, I realized that it can get unwieldly, thus, Cy @Work is born.

Finally, I would like to lay down the primary purpose of this blog:

  • to generate value in my chosen topics through thoughtful articles & opinions, tips & tricks and relevant news
  • to serve as a networking tool to bloggers including those who share my work interests, primarily OR practitioners, researchers and technology enthusiasts
  • to document my progression from being an OR novice to (hopefully) a competent OR practitioner someday, i.e. assuming I’ll stay in the field of OR for the long-term
